A Fresh Start
For many families, the dream of homeownership can feel distant, but for two Idaho families, that dream is becoming reality.
Through Hayden Homes and the First Story program, families have the opportunity to achieve affordable homeownership with no down payment and 0% interest for the life of the loan. In Idaho, that opportunity is made possible in part through NeighborWorks Boise, where families receive one-on-one financial counseling and attend Homebuyer Education classes before stepping into homeownership.
It is often during those early conversations that hope starts to feel tangible. With hard work and persistence, a dream that once felt far away slowly becomes real.
This year, two families are living that reality.
The Law family, a young couple with a baby, has been building their future while balancing work, school, and new parenthood. In the middle of it all, they stayed committed, attending Homebuyer Education and working closely with NeighborWorks Boise counselors to prepare for the next step. For them, homeownership now means stability and a place to grow together as a family.
The second family’s journey is one of quiet strength and persistence. A single mother of two spent years rebuilding after leaving an abusive relationship, doing everything she could to create a stable life for her children. Through counseling and education, she stayed focused on her goals, even when the path felt uncertain, holding onto the hope that things could change.
Both families are now receiving what First Story calls a “Fresh Start” home—properties once owned by First Story families that have been fully remodeled and given new life before being offered again under the same life-changing terms.
As First Story Executive Director Claire Duncan shared:
“80% of our families are the first generation in their families to own a home. They wouldn’t be here without NeighborWorks Boise.”
For Rachel Law, the moment feels deeply personal. After discovering First Story through online resources about homeownership, she connected with NeighborWorks Boise and stayed with the process through counseling and education. She credits her faith and the support she received along the way with helping her reach this milestone. She says she wouldn’t be here without NeighborWorks Boise and the Fresh Start opportunity.
Today is not just about keys or closing papers. It is about replacing uncertainty with stability, transforming hope into reality, and creating a foundation where both families can build their futures for generations to come.
