HOMEOWNERSHIP MADE POSSIBLE

 Mallory's Journey

Mallory has always dreamed of being a homeowner. And now she finally is. Mallory has worked hard to get to where she is today.

Her road to homeownership had many obstacles. A Boise-native, Mallory had always dreamed of having a home of her own one day. Challenging life circumstances and housing insecurity were a part of her struggle. Despite both Mallory and her boyfriend having multiple jobs, they couldn't save enough money to afford a deposit and rent for an apartment.

One glorious day after many months of penny-pinching, Mallory saved enough for the two of them to get their first apartment. This success led to their decision to start a new chapter in their lives. They began making healthier choices, moved out of state to be closer to his family, and got married. Yet despite Mallory's many attempts, they were unable to achieve her dream of getting their own home.

Life took its toll on the couple’s relationship, and Mallory had to quickly find a new place to live. While it would have been easy to give up, she persevered. Like dominoes, everything fell into place. Mallory was able to look at an apartment the day it was posted. She didn't have enough for the deposit, but that day she did have enough for the application. As soon as her application was approved, she had just enough money for the deposit. Eventually, she was able to make that apartment into a nice place to live but it was never a home.

Mallory lived each day, not knowing if she was going to have to pick up everything and start over again. She never purchased furniture or decorations for her humble apartment. Mallory began shopping for a home, and eventually found a house back in the Treasure Valley – starting the purchasing process. With interest rates climbing daily, Mallory was trying to purchase this home and lock in her rate before rates rose any further and made homeownership unaffordable for her. She could almost touch her life-long dream of owning a home. Yet an unexpected delay in paperwork prolonged the process. By the time the paperwork was signed, interest rates had risen drastically. She was priced out. Mallory was absolutely crushed.

Not one to give up on her dreams, Mallory connected with NeighborWorks® Boise's HUD-certified Housing Counselor, Ela. Through Pre-purchase Coaching, Mallory found out that she qualified for Hayden Homes’ First Story Program, and just this month, she moved into a brand new, 3-bedroom home – paying no interest or down payment on a 30-year mortgage!

When Mallory lived out of state, the one piece of sunshine she had in her life was visiting her family in Boise – specifically her nephew, Ryan, whose dad had to work long hours and grandfather needed a break from filling the parental role. Getting this brand-new Hayden Homes house means she finally has a safe, stable, reliable place for her nephew, Ryan to stay. When asked what it felt like to finally have her first home she said, "It's a miracle in my life and it's a dream come true."
