It's a great way to bond with your group, friends, or business associates while doing something important for our neighbors.
National Night Out—Building Community
Each August, our affordable apartment communities gather for a night of family fun. National Night Out is a nationwide event that promotes community building and highlights partnerships with various law enforcement and city officials. We did not hold National Night Out in 2020, so our residents were excited to participate this year. Celebrations were held at three of NeighborWorks® Boise's communities.
Gateway Crossing Apartments | Nampa, ID Gateway Crossing Apartments had a very successful National Night Out this year! Entertainment provided by Hawaiian at Heart dancers, Les Schwab fast pitch, Longoria Video Game Truck, Fantastic Fairytales and many amazing volunteers. We look forward to 2022! Davis Park Apartments | Boise, ID National Night Out at Davis Apartments was a success! Complete with cotton candy, face painting, a bounce house, sandwiches, a DJ and even a visit from Mayor McLean! The kids were waiting for the festivities to start an hour beforehand and cannot WAIT until next year's event. Northwest Pointe Apartments | Boise, ID The kids at Northwest Pointe had an evening of fun for National Night Out. The bounce house, face painting, and balloon artists were busy throughout the event. Boise Fire Department came and the kids loved talking to the firemen and getting to sit in the firetruck. A highlight was interacting with the Idaho Horsemen, a professional indoor football team. Thank you to West Ada School District, International Rescue Committee, Frontier Elementary, and Agency for New Americans for helping out. The kids are already looking forward to next year.
A Note from a Resident Leader I have had a good experience living at Gateway Crossing, one of NeighborWorks® Boise's apartment communities. I was encouraged to become a community leader by a NeighborWorks® staff member. I was always shy and quiet and now I talk to everyone and am much more neighborly. Now I greet the new people and visit with all the residents and also organize a movie night. I enjoy that because I now know most of the kids. I try to encourage other residents to volunteer and be engaged.
I have a lot of ideas for things I want to do in the future. Next year, I want to have a team from Gateway Crossing participate in Paint The Town™. I want to help with game nights, community potlucks, and other activities. The main things that motivate me to invest in others are my faith, my kids, and my willingness to try. I was told growing up that if you learn one new thing a day then it was a good day! I try and teach my boys that you can do things without being rewarded and be kind. I strongly believe it takes a village— or in my case my community—to raise a family. I feel like if other people see me volunteering, maybe they will try. NeighborWorks® has made a huge difference in my life.
Sincerely, Marla Swisher Resident at Gateway Crossing Apartments
