Trains, Planes, and Paint A Paint The Town™ Story If you've been involved with Paint The Town™, you know a highlight is getting to know the people you're serving. That has been the case for Becky Enrico-Crum with Andy Enrico and Company Real Estate. Becky has been painting for 25 years. This year, Becky was a part of the Broker's Council volunteer team. They painted the home of Ed, a veteran who served as an operator in the Korean War. With no family around to help out and a variety of mobility limitations, Ed really needed assistance with his house. During prep work on the house, Becky decided to get to know the homeowner. She shared, "They all have a story, and they love to be able to share it." And Ed certainly had plenty of stories to share. He told Becky of his experiences teaching people to fly, his love for trains and aeronautics, and winning countless awards for model trains he built and entered in fairs. Ed also showed Becky a model train he hadn't been able to get on its tracks, due to his inability to get on the floor. Becky didn't hesitate to help and with some direction from Ed, was able to get two of his train sets fixed. According to Becky, "Ed was so excited, almost like a kid." Broker's Council also went above and beyond by weeding his whole yard and replacing a door. Summing up her experience, Becky shared that although Ed was grateful and happy for their help, he made them just as happy. You never know what showing up for someone will mean for them, and for you. From Africa to Boise--A New Home
Samson and his family moved from Africa to Boise in 2014. His journey with NeighborWorks® Boise (NWB) began when his family moved into one of our affordable apartment communities—Northwest Pointe. While living there, he participated in NWB's Homebuyer Education course, translated into French.
Now better equipped to pursue homeownership, he began working with NWB's Director of Lending, Patrick Clayton. Patrick helped Samson and Isabelle, using NWB’s Dream Mortgage, which allowed them to qualify for the price-point they were hoping to obtain and still stay within their planned budget. This success story would not have been possible without the help of a local, French speaking, bi-lingual REALTOR®, Ophelie Montgomery. Ophelie made herself available to Samson and Isabelle 24/7 and was relentless in finding and securing them their dream home. After two years, Samson closed on a loan for a new construction home in Caldwell, where he now lives with his wife and five children. “After my family and I moved here from Africa, we lived in a NeighborWorks® apartment complex, then worked closely with Patrick on getting a loan for a new construction home. The people at NeighborWorks® were very nice from beginning to end, going above and beyond." -Samson NeighborWorks® Boise is grateful to have been able to help provide homes for Samson and his family. Their success showcases the value of NWB's continuum of housing and homeownership services.

A Note from a Paint The Town™ Volunteer For as long as I can remember, I have helped my dad with Paint The Town™. I learned so much growing up with a man who was willing to give selflessly and lead a team with such grace. Every year I looked forward to showing up to help him, meeting the owners, and being a part of something bigger than myself. My dad has been volunteering since 1997 and shared, "When I think back over all those years, I have fond memories of the smiles on homeowners faces when they saw the work we did."
Six years ago I joined Empire Title and applied to be on the YPN board for Boise Regional REALTORS®. The year I joined was the first year for us to do Paint The Town™ and we have painted five more homes since then. Every year my dad has come to our rescue, along with the help of my husband, to do minor projects—assisting with the difficult painting tasks, and guiding us.
For the last few years I have served as the team captain, alongside my friend Angela Gibson. It is meaningful to get to be in a similar role as the one I grew up watching my dad in. It is not easy to coordinate volunteers that may or may not know how to paint— especially when you are a perfectionist like me—but it is so worth it.
Since retiring, my dad has joined my team, instead of leading his own. My bonus daughter also joined for her first time this year and truly loved every minute. I felt like I was watching myself 18 years ago, and I am excited to see her grow from this experience together.
I honestly believe Paint The Town™ has made me a better person and leader (and maybe a better painter). It is so incredible to see the finished product, and the look on the owner’s face always brings tears to my eyes.
I am thankful Paint The Town™ exists and it will forever be a part of the bond my dad and I share. Thank you to NeighborWorks® Boise for coordinating such an amazing program for our community.
Sincerely, Julie Schott Account Executive, Empire Title & Escrow YPN Board Member, Boise Regional REALTORS® Paint The Town™ Volunteer
